Mod-U-Kraf Announces Ferrum College
Residence Hall Project

[Rocky Mount, VA, March 2008]—Mod-U-Kraf Homes, LLC, has started on a new multi-million dollar student housing project at Ferrum College. Located in Southside Virginia just west of Rocky Mount on State Rte. 40, Ferrum College is a four-year, private, co-educational liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

Mod-U-Kraf will build most of the $3.4 million structure off-site to avoid construction delays. It will have an all-brick exterior. This manufacturing process could serve as a prototype building method for other colleges and universities that are also in need of quality, fast-track construction. The new structure will be energy efficient and meet Federal Government’s ‘ENERGY STAR’ certifications.

According to Natalie Faunce, Public Relations director at Ferrum College, “Foundation work is already in progress at the site of this new three-story residence hall located on the west side of the campus. The building will house 120 students, two to a room, and will help accommodate our continued growth. The use of local companies will boost the economy in not only the Franklin County area, but surrounding regions as well. Project completion is expected before the fall 2008 semester.”

Ferrum College President, Dr. Jennifer Braaten adds, “We wanted to keep the funds expended on this project in the local economy. This will help local businesses in light of the recent downturn in the housing market and the economy in general. In this particular instance, we were concerned about doing the right thing for Franklin County’s continued prosperity. With local businesses like Mod-U-Kraf involved, we are getting the highest quality and value for our investment in Ferrum College’s future.”

“We were thrilled to be selected as the lead partner on this project and it could not have come at a better time,” says Frank Hodges, Mod-U-Kraf’s vice president of sales and marketing. “This project hits home. What could be better than building student housing for our brightest hope for the future, our children? Plus, we keep our dedicated employees working and this pumps even more money into the local economy.”

A Southwest Virginia television station, WDBJ Channel 7, reported at a March 5th news conference that, “[the] building will serve somewhat of a dual purpose. During the summer, there's a chance it could become a hotel for tourists visiting ‘The Crooked Trail’. That's just one more way to bring in more business.”

Mod-U-Kraf vice president of operations, Jeff Powell continues, “We want to thank those at Ferrum College that thought enough about us as a company to trust this major expansion to Mod-U-Kraf and our local suppliers like MW Windows, Blackwater Door & Millwork, Scott Manufacturing and Rocky Mount Supply.”

Since inclusion in Coachmen (NYSE:COA), Mod-U-Kraf has grown from a regional brand to a larger Mid-Atlantic and Southern brand with sales to match. Mod-U-Kraf builds commercial developments in the states of Delaware, Georgia, Eastern Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
