Mod-U-Kraf Homes Building College & University Residence Halls
Building completion time: 4-5 months
Quality, fast-track construction
Mod-U-Kraf construction makes it possible for college and universities to take advantage of an increased student population. Mod-U-Kraf constructs modular units which are pre-built in their controlled environment factory and then shipped to the site where the finish out is done within a few months. This gives colleges and universities the opportunity to take advantage of late applicants and expand their residential housing without the risk of non-occupancy.
Ferrum College Residence Hall Project
Project cost: $3.4 million
The Ferrum College Clark residence hall was build by Mod-U-Kraf Home in just over 120 days. The residence hall provided 120 students rooms with built in closets and included community access to full kitchens and sitting areas on each of its four floors.
Design features include an all-brick exterior, columns, and an appealing exterior that coinciding with the school’s existing building architecture. There were no academic interruptions or ground keeping interruptions due to most construction being completed in the Mod-U-Kraf Homes manufacturing facility. The new structure will be energy efficient and meet Federal Government’s ‘ENERGY STAR’ certifications. This manufacturing process will serve as a prototype building method for other colleges and universities that are also in need of quality, fast-track construction.
The per square footage cost savings allowed Ferrum College to build a larger dorm and house more students as well as add upgrades to make the dorms nicer for the students.
Ferrum College President, Dr. Jennifer Braaten states, “we are getting the highest quality and value for our investment in Ferrum College’s future.”
